With four planets in reverse this month, the pace slows down even more, if you can believe it.
Perhaps most notably, Venus, goddess of love and money takes the scenic route through Gemini, turning love in the time of coronavirus into an inside job.
Six weeks and counting into socially isolating, those of us in the Northern Hemisphere gaze through our widows at the trees leafing out and birds bringing treats to their hatchlings, yet with three outer planets and personal planet Venus all moving backwards this month, we must remain homebound. The best way through is to take this slowdown as an opportunity to turn within and become extra curious about how we communicate. As we practice the skill of deep listening to ourselves as much as to one another, we begin to sort out what we truly value. Like dominos the three major planets that turn their backs on us are Saturn on the 11th, Venus on the 13th, then Jupiter on the 14th. (Pluto already turned retrograde at the end of April). The outer planets will maintain their backward motion for about four months, Venus, until the end of June. When the Love Goddess reverses direction, we’re pulled to recalibrate our passions as well as our pocketbooks. In the communicative sign of Gemini, it’s wise to write, talk, walk, or work it out with our hands. This is also a great time to experiment, and try on different ideas and scenarios. While none of us knows where this upside-down era will lead, May is well spent using our words and sounding out potential realities of where we might want to end up. This clarity of intention guides who we become. Lastly and perhaps most notably, as the North Node, the destiny point of the zodiac clicks into the sign of the Twins on the 5th, our direction shifts from a global to a more local focus, and suffice it to say, communications and information technologies become even more essential.
TAURUS (April 20–May 20) Happy birthday sweet Bulls. Finances are the focus this month, and your dollars may be burning a hole in your pocket as your ruling planet, luxury-loving Venus does a slow dance through your money and values house. If you must splurge on something, let it be groceries. Stock up on the basics, skip the cupcakes, and master bread baking instead of planning a birthday bash. This is a good time to build up your savings account with the thought of a lean winter ahead. If needed, enlist a buddy to help you devise a budget. Venus loves to do things with another, and we’re all learning about interconnection now. A full moon in intense Scorpio on the 7th sheds insight on a relationship issue. Don’t jump to conclusions but do take the time to talk it out and listen with extra care toward yourself as well as your beloved. You may find a deepening of intimacy or reach an agreement to toss an unhelpful habit. By the end of the month, you may feel renewed energy and be ready to commit to a healthier partnership.
GEMINI (May 21–June 20) The spotlight’s on YOU, Twins. From the middle of the month through the end of June, you will be rethinking your personal brand and minding your body. Tune out the critics and disregard the feedback now. With the North Node, destiny point moving into your house of identity and the Goddess of Love moonwalking around your image, you’re in a fruitful phase, reevaluating how you want to approach a possible new path. In these unsettling times, when many of us are wearing masks this poses a particularly interesting process for you, Twins. What’s going on behind that face mask with the cute print? It’s peaking our curiosity. Master transformers, many of you Gems will be readying a big reveal in the next year or so. If you can steer clear of any mixed messages or insecurity clouding your career goals, you may be ripe to come into your power via blazing a new trail.
CANCER (June 21–July 22) Introverted Crabs will feel inclined to retreat into their shells this month, and while a degree of hermit crabbing may be needed in order to recharge, ultimately aiming toward higher ground is the way to go, Cancer. Resist the pulling tides of binge watching Netflix or being swept away by a secret sexy tryst (or virtual infatuation). Instead, sink into your inner spiritual sanctuary and get intimate with you. This is your path to finding ways to help others while not sacrificing every last ounce of your own invaluable energy. Crabs may find themselves taking shifts at the food bank or delivering groceries to their elder neighbors. Connect to the bigger view of universal love, beyond personal romance this month and direct your superpowers of nurturing toward your community. Not one for being splashy, we know you’ll do it in your own beautifully understated way.
LEO (July 23–Aug. 22) While friends and social networks may keep extroverted Lions purring this month, it’s prime time for you to reevaluate your pride and determine who’s worthy of your precious time. Side stepping mini dramas within your circle will allow you to better see the jungle for the baobabs and limit time spent with those who no longer share your values. Curiosity may have killed the cat but not the lion when it comes to checking out new groups that more closely align with your long-term goals. If you can keep this sampling experiment light, and not blur the lines between friends and romantic interests, you can maintain the cool headedness needed to figure out what you want and the courage to ask for it. A full moon in your house of home and hearth encourages you to finish that house project. No need to rush any considered purchases, like high-end furniture, right now, just concentrate on those last touches on the essentials.
VIRGO (Aug. 23–Sept. 22) All work and no play, makes you very humdrum, dear Virgo. We know how hard you work; and as many of you are on the front lines carrying out some of the most difficult tasks as healthcare and essential workers at this time, we thank you for your dedication and service. But it’s time to pump the brakes and take a moment to consider how you might incorporate more ease into your worldly contributions. Brainstorm with a co-worker about ways to infuse some pleasure into your daily grind. Get creative, wallpaper your office space or locker with an array of Post-It note possibilities, and send a playful message with all this collaging to your co-workers or even the wider public. (Do be mindful of boundaries around those long hours spent with colleagues where the lines between business and pleasure can get blurry, especially with your boss.) Loving what you do, doing what you love, and valuing your time is essential for you, now more than ever. According to the cosmic omens, you have our permission to just say no to thankless jobs. No need to make any rash moves just yet, but remember, take a lot of notes!
LIBRA (Sept. 23–Oct. 22) You may be keen to investigate your financial deals as you weigh your spending habits at the start of the month, when a super moon shines a light in your money house. Then mid-month, your ruler, lovely Venus retraces her steps in your house of philosophy and higher learning, encouraging you to consider how you circulate your knowledge once you’ve integrated recent learnings. Which truths still apply and which ones can you let go of now that you know what you know? Libras are veritable sponges right now, soaking up spiritual wisdom from a range of sources. Brilliant! Just beware of idolizing your teachers, and make sure to ask a lot of questions. It’s okay to fall in love with ideas but with your guru, not so much. You may realize they have ulterior agendas once the retrograde period passes and your rose-colored glasses slip off your nez. If you’ve been feeling a bit drained from a revamped Spring exercise routine, stick with it! The benefits pay off with a boost in energy by the end of the month.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23–Nov. 21) A full supermoon in your sign on the 7th moves you to dig deep into making an important decision around a significant relationship as part of a deep dive into transforming yourself. The two go hand in hand. If your needs aren’t being met, you may be moved to pursue an exciting new romance or express your passion in an original creative project. Single Scorpios, beware of getting carried away by the carnal side of a relationship; make sure any partner you connect with is above board as this is a time when people may not be who they appear to be, and even you could be bamboozled. By mid-month, Scorpions are reviewing investments, putting wills, life insurance, trusts in order and clearing up any shared debts. Right to the end of the month, you will be unearthing what you most value, uprooting secrets or hidden agendas, and if you are unhappy in a relationship, having the courage to let it go. If you’re committed to making a partnership work, the time is ripe to seek counseling or get into couple’s therapy. If you can’t afford it, write or journal your way through what may prove to be a deeply healing process.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22–Dec. 21) A slowdown on the workfront gives you the opportunity to turn your mind (and heart) toward relationships that need nurturing and maybe even mending. The hit in earnings is a hard one, but do your best at curbing complaints (not helpful to those closest to you) about the reality of the structural breakdowns and use the month to shift your focus. If you can channel your energy into a short-term home improvement project at the end of the month, in the very least it will take your mind off the money-making treadmill. Truly, joining forces with your partner this month and investing your energy there will bring a much needed sweetness. Single Archers, now is the time to meditate on what you want in a relationship. Whether you’re partnered or not, consider engaging in talk therapy to sharpen your ability to communicate your needs. Learning to listen without taking it personally can benefit paired and single Sagges alike. Kindness is key this month.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22–Jan. 19) Ramping up the daily walks will keep you thinking constructively. It could even be helpful to take a work call or two whilst the miles tick by underfoot, working and getting in exercise at the same time—an efficiency-minded Goat’s dream. Revising your routines this month, whether that entails waking up earlier or extending your workouts, helps you to get back on track and boosts productivity. If like many Capricorns, you’ve been working even more hours since staying in place, you may be feeling distant from your partner. To narrow the divide, make plans to connect. While you’re working out the schedule, set up a teleconference call with your doctor; the current coronavirus crisis aside, it’s important to take an inventory of your health. You get the idea, using this time to balance and take care of your body, mind, spirit, and relationships helps quiet any anxiety you may be experiencing. And if you’re feeling a curious void in your life since the lockdown, why not join a recent trend: adopt a dog or cat, heck, how about an old goat?
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20–Feb. 18) Something is churning in your creative engine. You’d be wise to write about it, talk about it, and commit to some new aspect of your creative life. Waterbearers with kids, playtime is in sesh! Yay! Share entertainment, write a screenplay together, act out and videotape a dramatic production. No apologies; you’re free to be yourself. This is a month to celebrate your beauty. And while you’re at it if you happen to be single, jot down some of these revelations about your own loveliness and revamp your dating profile. While dating apps may be dormant now, they’re bound to have a surge once Venus emerges from her slumber and everyone gets back to socializing in person. Just keep it light and beware of any Twin Flame claims. With a fuzzy influence coming from deceptive planet Neptune this month, your bullshit detector may be on the fritz. Similarly, refrain from online gambling. You could lose much more than your shirt.
PISCES (Feb. 19–March 20) Home is not only your happy place this month, Pisces, it’s your transcendent sanctuary. As you reevaluate your domestic surroundings, lay off any major remodeling plans or big improvement purchases, but by all means, create your most sublime Pinterest board yet! Mid-month set your sights on deepening your spiritual goals. As take-action planet Mars connects with your ruler, mystical Neptune, instead of pining for far away destinations, take a trip in your higher mind. As your intuition turns way up, pay attention to any messages coming from the ancestral realm. Build an altar or create a photo wall of those who’ve come before; you’re ripe for healing your family line, particularly the maternal. As you work through your past, the cosmos green-lights you for spiritual liberation and healing inherited karma once and for all. For those Fishes with living moms, beyond the requisite Mother’s Day card and flowers, what will matter most now is actually listening to her, as opposed to being triggered by her. Empathy is where it’s at.
ARIES (March 21–April 19) A Scorpio full moon on the 7th brings shared resources into focus. What sort of readjustments need to be made for the long haul? Writing and talking from your home office feels better this month, easing you further into the waters of permanent freelance/solo work. Don’t make any decisions yet, but take note of the pros more than the cons this month. In the meantime, reach out to existing clients and listen to their needs. Devise a survey to elicit feedback and revise your offerings based on the response. This is the right time to mix business and pleasure; so, organize a virtual office open house or a FaceTime coffee date with a potential collaborator. Always up for a bit of competition, now’s a good time to stretch beyond your personal best, compete with yourself and let go of any worry about what others are doing. As you find more value in your immediate neighborhood, doing what you can to promote peace there will help create avenues for gentler communication amongst neighbors for years to come. A way to begin is by steering clear of gossip; it will only drain your energy. Speak kindness, follow the Buddha’s teaching and practice right speech; better yet, keep your mouth shut. Silent retreat anyone?
If you know your rising sign, read that too; it’s often more relevant.
