When you are out for a run on a windy spring day and it starts raining and then, as you gain altitude, snowing sideways, it can be a huge relief to finally see the bright red rubble of the butte where you parked the car. Especially if you have never been on this trail, thought it was maybe a 6-mile loop and it is definitely 10, and you have sandbagged your running buddy and old dog.
